Kaiden Guhle Injured and Will Miss Time
Guhle left in the third period of Tuesday night’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. The 23-year-old sustained the lower-body injury after he lost an edge and crashed awkwardly into the boards. He appeared to be favouring his right leg. However, Guhle did leave the ice under his own power.
The Sherwood Park, Alberta native has only played for the Habs during his three-year NHL career. Guhle has four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 43 games so far this season. He has a Corsi for of 42.4 and a relative Corsi of -7.8.
The young blueliner has 14 goals and 40 assists for 54 points in 157 career games. Montreal originally drafted Guhle in the first round, 16th overall of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Guhle has represented his native Canada at the international level. He picked up a silver medal at the 2021 World Juniors. The former Edmonton Oil King also was on the fourth-place squad at the 2024 IIHF World Championships.
What It Means
Losing Guhle would be a big blow to a Canadiens team that is playing above expectations. He is an important component of the Montreal defence and sees top-four minutes.
If Guhle is out for any amount of time, we could see Jayden Struble enter the lineup for any significant length of time. Montreal will next take on the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
Guhle looked to be on pace to eclipse his career-high six goals that he had in the 2023-24 season. He was building off his breakout campaign, but now Montreal has to hold its breath as it hopes Guhle can return soon.
