The Golden State Warriors began calling the Phoenix Suns on a Kevin Durant approximately a week-and-half before the trade deadline, which opened up the opportunity for other teams to inquire.
“Multiple new teams did make some offers this week,” said Shams Charania on NBA Today. “That included the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Miami Heat.”
Charania added that Durant didn’t want to be traded this week. Durant, who was reportedly “unhappy” he was discussed in trade negotiations this week, could be dealt by the Suns in the offseason unless the team turns around their fortunes in the playoffs.
Durant had interest in joining the Heat in 2022 when he requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. The Heat and Suns were already discussing a Jimmy Butler trade leading to the deadline, which surely helped the conversation pivot to a Butler for Durant scenario.
