Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has reportedly taken his first step towards holding out for a new contract.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Tagovailoa has been absent for most of the Dolphins’ voluntary workouts.
During his first four NFL seasons, Tagovailoa reportedly showed up for the majority of the voluntary workout program. The belief is his absent is directly related to his contract situation.
What’s interesting about Tagovailoa’s absence is that he told Adam Beasley that he plans on attending voluntary practices this spring.
Tagovailoa is set to play the 2024 season on an expiring contract. The former Alabama star probably wants to receive an extension before Week 1 arrives.
Back in January, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier talked about keeping Tagovailoa in Miami for the long haul.
“We never talk about money or anything, just good conversations about where he is and the relationship with (head coach) Mike (McDaniel) and the team here and everything he’s done,” Grier said, via CBS Sports. “So the goal is to have him here long-term playing at a high level. That’s always the goal and we’ll continue to communicate with him through the offseason here.”
Tagovailoa finished last season with 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Dolphins were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Who’ll blink first: Tagovailoa or the Dolphins? We’ll find out this offseason.
