The Miami Dolphins updated the status of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. The FanDuel odds immediately changed.
The Miami Dolphins head into Week 17 needing wins and some help in order to make the 2024 NFL playoffs. They were seen as decent favorites for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, with the FanDuel sportsbook odds hovering around 6.5 points throughout the week. On Saturday, however, news broke that immediately impacted the betting line.
The line opened last Sunday with Miami favored by three points, but had expanded to 6.5 points by Monday morning. Now, it has fallen back to the three-point mark as the Dolphins updated quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s status for Sunday afternoon.
Tagovailoa was originally listed as questionable for the game as he deals with a hip injury. That Friday afternoon designation was changed to doubtful on Saturday as the issue continues to hamper the quarterback. Tagovailoa is expected to try to play, but the team seems to be preparing to play Sunday with Tyler Huntley starting and practice squad quarterback Skylar Thompson backing him up.
The Dolphins enter the weekend 7-8 and needing two wins, plus a combination losses from the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, and Indianapolis Colts over the final two weeks of the season to clinch a playoff berth. Miami was 1-3 in games not started by Tagovailoa this season as the Pro Bowl quarterback missed four games following a concussion. Now, their chances to make the playoffs may have taken a massive hit if the hip continues to be a problem.
