Pro Football & Sports Network ranks Tua Tagovailoa ahead of Patrick Mahomes for 2024 performances.
The folks at the Pro Football & Sports Network (formerly known as Pro Football Network) have designed a new way to assess quarterback performance in the National Football League, and according to their QB+ metric, Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins had the 8th best season for signal callers in 2024 — placing him ahead of Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs who checked in at number ten.
So, what is QB+?
PFSN defined their metric like this:
“We’ve created a formula for assigning a letter grade to every quarterback’s performance.
Is it perfect? No. Nothing is.
We’re molding stats that include success rates when pressured, third-down conversion rate, and pocket production. The added wrinkle in this PFN insight is quantifying ‘clutch.’
Defining ‘clutch’ performance is an imperfect science. In this case, we’ve used timeliness-based stats to account for score and situation.
To avoid small sample-size anomalies, we’ve set the bar at 200 regular-season pass attempts to qualify for a ranking but also discussed quarterbacks who did not reach that mark where they are relevant.”
Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens earned the highest grade — a 99.8, or an A+. Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions checked in at number two — earning a 92.8, or an A-. Josh Allen rounded out the top three with a 91.7, also good for an A-.

When healthy, Tagovailoa has proven himself to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, however his durability remains a major concern after missing six games in 2024. In his five year career, the 27-year-old has only played a full season once — starting all 17 regular season games in 2023, plus Miami’s playoff loss to Kansas City.
