The Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback is sidelined with a hip injury as the team tries to sneak into the playoffs.
The Miami Dolphins beat the Cleveland Browns last week with Tyler Huntley starting at quarterback. Now, they will do it again in Week 18 as Huntley starts in place of Tua Tagovailoa. Officially listed as doubtful on the final injury report this week, Tagovailoa landed on the inactive players list Sunday afternoon as he continues to deal with a hip injury. Miami is hoping for a win against the Jets and a loss by the Denver Broncos against the Kansas City Chiefs in order to claim a playoff spot for the third consecutive season.
It is unclear if Tagovailoa, who missed four games earlier in the year with a concussion, would be available for a game next week should the Dolphins make the playoffs.
Also inactive for Miami are linebacker Anthony Walker, Jr., linebacker Mohamed Kamara, offensive lineman Andrew Meyer, offensive lineman Braeden Daniels, wide receiver Dee Eskridge, and wide receiver Erik Ezukanma.
The good news for the Dolphins are wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are both active, despite injuries that had them questionable on the injury report.
The Jets side of the inactive list includes cornerback Michael Carter II, defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis, linebacker Jamin Davis, safety Jaylen Simpson, offensive lineman Morgan Moses, edge rusher BRaiden McGregor, and cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse.
The Dolphins and Jets kick off at MetLife Stadium at 4:25 p.m. Eastern. The Chiefs at Broncos game has a simultaneous kickoff with the playoffs on the line for Denver and Miami.
