Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel announced a change to the team’s practice schedule Wednesday.
McDaniel canceled Thursday’s final session of minicamp, instead saying his team would hold a final walkthrough rather than a full workout.
Once they’re done with that, the Dolphins will be off the clock until training camp in late July. In the meantime, they’ll look to iron out new contracts for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
Tagovailoa is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, and as of right now, would be a free agent after the 2024 season.
Hill, meanwhile, is on the books for two more years, but has said he is looking for a new contract and would like to retire a Dolphin.
“He’s a big part of everything that we’re doing,” McDaniel said of Hill on Tuesday. “I think that is something that I know as competitors, I think Tyreek (Hill) wants that, he’s made that explicit. I think me as a competitor, I want to make that happen. And I think in terms of the Miami Dolphins embracing Tyreek Hill, I think that is an understatement and we look forward to continuing to grow in our relationship, for sure.”
The Dolphins are coming off an 11-6 season and AFC Wild Card berth, the team’s second straight trip to the postseason.
