James Daniels, Miami Dolphins, Agree to Contract
The 2024 season was one to forget for James Daniels, as a torn Achilles limited him to just four games. Still, he played remarkably well when on the field, recording a 92.9 PFF grade in his limited sample. The Pittsburgh Steelers went 10-7 in his absence, although they finished the season on a low note by losing their final five games and going one-and-done in the Wild Card round to the Baltimore Ravens.
James Daniels originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the Chicago Bears, the Iowa product started his career on the bench but eventually earned a starting job midway through the season. Starting in 10 games, the rookie finished his inaugural season with a solid 68.7 PFF grade, the 20th-best mark out of 77 eligible players. With his help, Chicago made it to the NFC Divisional Round but couldn’t advance after a last-second missed field goal.
James Daniels maintained his starting job in 2019 and remained in the role throughout the duration of his rookie contract. The lone exception was in 2020 when injuries limited him to just five games, but he reclaimed a starting spot on the offensive line in 2021. Following the expiration of his rookie deal, Daniels took his talents to Pittsburgh. Responsible for blocking old friend Mitchell Trubisky and rookie Kenny Pickett, Daniels finished his first season in Pittsburgh with a 66.9 PFF grade, the 24th-best mark out of 77 eligible players.
Since signing his rookie contract, James Daniels has appeared in 90 games while making 84 starts. While he has made the playoff on multiple occasions, he is still looking for his first postseason win.
