Zach Wilson, Miami Dolphins, Agree to Contract
After spending his first three seasons as the primary starting quarterback for the New York Jets, Wilson spent the 2024 season with the Denver Broncos. Serving as a depth option behind first-round rookie Bo Nix and veteran Jarrett Stidham, Wilson never saw the field. Despite his absence, the team made it to the playoffs but lost in the Wild Card round to the Buffalo Bills.
Zach Wilson originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the New York Jets, the BYU product immediately earned the starting job for Gang Green. Starting and appearing in 13 games, the veteran finished the season with a 3-10 record while completing 55.6% of his passes for 2,334 yards, nine touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Wilson maintained the starting job in 2022 but didn’t hold onto it before the entire season. Starting in nine games, the Jets went 5-4 with Wilson under center, but they weren’t successful because of him. The quarterback completed just 54.5% of his passes for 1,688 yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions and was ultimately benched for backup Mike White.
The New York Jets acquired four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers ahead of the 2023 season and planned on keeping Wilson on the bench. That plan went up in flames after four snaps, as Rodgers tore his Achilles and forced Wilson into action. The quarterback still struggled, going 4-7 in 11 starts while completing 60.1% of his passes for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Since signing his rookie contract, Zach Wilson has appeared in 34 games while making 33 starts. While on the field, the BYU product has completed 57.0% of his passes for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions.
