Ryan Crow spent six seasons with Mike Vrabel in Tennessee.
The Miami Dolphins failed to make the playoffs for the first time in three years, but that hasn’t deterred interest in the coaching staff. Not only is Anthony Weaver pursuing a head coaching job with the New Orleans Saints, but outside linebacker coach Ryan Crow may soon be headed out the door.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Monday that the New England Patriots have requested permission to interview Crow to be the franchise’s next defensive coordinator.

A walk-on linebacker at Bowling Green, Crow broke into the NFL’s coaching ranks as a defensive assistant in 2018 — with Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans. He climbed the ranks, serving as an assistant special teams coach in 2020 before spending three seasons as the outside linebackers coach.
Crow joined the Dolphins as a part of Weaver’s staff last offseason, but a reunion with Vrabel seems like a legitimate possibility considering their relationship. Miami won eight of the last 10 games against New England, but Vrabel’s Titans demolished the Dolphins 34-3 on Jan. 1, 2022, and shocked the world with a 28-27 primetime win on Dec. 11, 2023.
Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have been Miami’s biggest issue in the AFC East recently, but New England may quickly become a threat with Vrabel’s — and possibly Crow’s — services headed north.
