I’ll start this evening by agreeing with most of you. I know that if I ask you what the biggest mistake the team made this season was, you, like I, would have a mountain of complaints that are all likely deserved. But if you had to say what the single biggest mistake that the Miami Dolphins front office or coaching staff made this year was, what would it be? Mine would be letting Robert Hunt go and not filling his shoes adequately.
I in no way think that they could compete with the contract that Hunt received, but you can’t allow a vital guy to walk and then slot just anyone into his spot on the line. We clearly could not run the ball as effectively this season as last, and I am sure that a lot of that is directly related to Hunt being gone and having no adequate replacement. I don’t know how you run a form of the West Coast Offense when you can’t run the ball at all at times.
I could also argue that there is a lack of depth at several positions besides the offensive line. I suspect that happens when you give a ton of money to players at specific skill positions, leaving little for upgrades at other positions. I don’t know that it matters what you pay anyone on the offensive side of the ball if the OL is terrible, your run game can not get going, and your QB can not get the ball to any of the other skill players. It all just makes my head hurt thinking about it.
So, if you had to narrow it down to just one decision, what is the single biggest mistake/dumbest decision that either the Miami Dolphins front office or coaching staff made that helped lead to the horrific season that we just witnessed?
