Jevón Holland’s days with the Miami Dolphins appear to be over.
There were already reports that the Dolphins wouldn’t use the franchise tag to keep the safety, who turns 25 next week. Holland also said the team’s social media was dropping hints that he’s being phased out. But Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel made it all but official Tuesday when he told reporters at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that the team won’t keep Holland from hitting free agency next month.
“I think Jevón has earned the right to go out and test his market,” McDaniel said. “That’s something that I don’t look at as a negative because what I don’t want is players being here and wishing they were somewhere else. So testing the market – this has been a guy that has been a contributor from his rookie year on that a lot of teams have had the ability to watch him.
“We feel good about his ability to test his market, and if business works out appropriately, his ability to be back here. That process will start, I know he’s looking forward to it and he’s earned that.”
While McDaniel isn’t ruling out Holland’s return, that seems highly unlikely if the safety hits the market. Pro Football Focus projects Holland will get just under $20 million per year in free agency, which would presumably be well out of Miami’s limited price range.
Holland, a 2021 second-round pick, has started 57 games since taking over in the starting lineup early in his rookie year. He’s recorded five career interceptions with five sacks and five fumble recoveries.
