The Miami Dolphins defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 29-17 on Sunday to keep their slim playoff chances alive. They don’t control their own destiny — as they’ll need to win out plus get help with losses by the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers — however, the team still has something to play for with two weeks to go in the regular season, which is a good thing for fans of this franchise.
One player in particular needs to be lauded for his efforts against the 49ers, and that player is none other than electric second-year running back De’Von Achane.
Miami Dolphins Week Sixteen MVP – De’Von Achane
In an amusing twist of fate, it was Achane who did his best Christian McCaffrey impression on Sunday against the team that wishes they had a healthy CMC on their roster at the moment.
Not only did Achane torch San Francisco on the ground for 120 yards on 17 carries (7.1 yards per carry) and a game sealing 50-yard touchdown scamper, but he also tied tight end Jonnu Smith for the team lead in receptions with six and led the Dolphins with 70 receiving yards.
A true duel threat, Achane has become Miami’s most feared weapon during the 2024 season. With 76 receptions on the year so far, the 23-year-old now holds the franchise record for most receptions by a running back in a single season — with two more games left to play. If he has a couple more games like the one he just had, he’ll also top the 1,000 yard rushing mark on the year as he currently sits at 761 yards on the ground for the 2024 campaign.
