Tuesday’s addition of Calais Campbell meant one player’s exit from the Miami Dolphins’ roster.
After officially coming to terms on a deal with the 37-year-old defensive lineman to bring him back to his old collegiate stomping grounds, the Dolphins dismissed wide receiver Mathew Sexton.
Sexton signed with the team back in January on a reserve/future contract after practice squad stints with the Falcons, Patriots and Cardinals. He also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 and ’22.
Sexton’s last meaningful playing time came with the Vegas Vipers of the XFL (now the UFL) where he hauled in 23 receptions for 364 yards. He played his college ball at Eastern Michigan where he caught 100 passes for 1,335 yards and nine touchdowns in his Eagles career.
As for Campbell, he arrives in South Beach after playing in all 17 games for the Atlanta Falcons last year.
Campbell has spent 16 years in the National Football League where he’s made six Pro Bowls, been named a first-team All-Pro and earned one of the league’s top honors as the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year recipient.
Campbell’s Pro Bowl days may be behind him at this point but he can still a valuable piece to any defensive line.
