Just like the rest of the NFL world, Jalen Ramsey learned on Friday that Xavien Howard won’t be his teammate next season.
The Miami Dolphins informed Howard that he’ll be released at the start of the new league year. His release is expected to have a post-June 1 designation so the team can save $18.5 million in cap space.
Howard had an incredible run in Miami, racking up 331 tackles, 95 pass deflections and 29 interceptions. Unfortunately, his final year with the Dolphins wasn’t a huge success.
Apparently, former Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was to blame for Howard’s lack of productivity in 2023.
Ramsey posted this message on social media: “Shid be crazy how stuff plays out sometimes but 1 thing ikno fa sho is that it was an honor teaming up with the GREATEST corner in @MiamiDolphins History in my opinion… (I won’t ever forgive dude for not utilizing our full skillset!)”
It’s hard to imagine Ramsey is calling out Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel with this post. He’s not responsible for Miami’s scheme on defense.
If anything, this post from Ramsey validates the Dolphins’ decision to let Fangio leave this offseason. Clearly, not every defensive player was on board with his coaching.
The Dolphins have hired Anthony Weaver as their new defensive coordinator. We’ll see if he can properly utilize Ramsey’s skillset this fall.
