The Miami Dolphins will keep Tyrel Dodson in South Florida for two years.
The Miami Dolphins will bring back linebacker Tyrel Dodson, according to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The deal is a two-year contract for $8.25 million. Dodson had been set to become a free agent at 4 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday but will now stay in South Florida.
The Dolphins claimed Dodson off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks in November. He appeared in eight games for Miami, starting three times, with 36 tackles and three interceptions. He was originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Buffalo Bills in 2019, spending his first five years there. He joined the Seahawks in free agency in 2024 but was waived by the team in mid-November despite being the team’s leading tackler. Along with his eight games for the Dolphins, Dodson started nine games in Seattle last year. His combined season stats included 107 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Dodson likely returns to the starting lineup next to Jordyn Brooks in Miami’s defensive system. Anthony Walker, Jr., who Dodson surpassed on the depth chart during the 2024 season, and long -time Dolphins rotational linebacker Duke Riley are both set to be a free agent.
