After the Dolphins traded their first-round pick in 2021 to move up and select wide receiver Jaylen Waddle out of Alabama, they were left with just one first-round pick in 2022.
That pick was originally owned by the San Francisco 49ers, and its position will be determined by where they finish in the playoffs. Unfortunately for Miami, the 49ers keep winning. They defeated the Green Bay Packers 13-10 on Saturday to advance to the NFC championship game.
If San Francisco had lost to the Packers, the pick would’ve been 25th overall. Now, it can be no better than No. 29, and if the 49ers keep winning, the pick will obviously fall even further.
This may give the Dolphins more options for what to do with the pick. They may feel more inclined now to trade the pick for an established veteran than draft a player who could be considered the 29th-best in the draft.
