The Miami Dolphins let one slip away against the Tennessee Titans on Monday night.
Mike McDaniel’s team was up by 14 with less than three minutes to go in the fourth quarter before the Titans roared back to secure the upset victory, 28-27. It’s the first time a team with a lead that large in the final few minutes has lost since 1976.
After the game, McDaniel spoke to the media and called this a “humbling” game for his team.
“I think you have to because it’s a humbling game, and you think that you’re a good football team, but then each and every week you have to prove that on the field and you can’t take anything for granted,” McDaniel said, via ProFootballTalk. “Right now it feels terrible, but that’s everything that we’ll be trying to do moving forward because these types of losses can be very galvanizing.”
Had the Dolphins won, they would’ve improved to 10-3 and been tied with the Baltimore Ravens for the top seed in the AFC.
Instead, they’re 9-4 heading into next weekend’s game against the New York Jets.
