
The Miami Dolphins have re-signed one of their defensive starters the team announced on Thursday.
The Miami Dolphins announced on Friday a move to return a defensive starter to the team for the 2025 season. Free agent defensive tackle Benito Jones is re-signing with the team, giving them a key member in the middle of the defensive line for next season. Along with Jones, the Dolphins have Zach Sieler, Matt Dickerson, and Neil Farrell in the defensive line position group.
The team is still hopeful veteran Calais Campbell will choose to return for the 2025 season and re-sign with the team.
Jones appeared in 17 games last season, starting 15 of them, for the Dolphins. He recorded 24 tackles. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss in 2020, spending his first two seasons primarily on Miami’s practice squad. In 2022, the Detroit Lions claimed Jones off waivers at the end of the preseason, likely as the Dolphins looked to again moves Jones to the practice squad. He spent two seasons in Detroit before returning to the Dolphins in 2024.
Over the first years since he joined the NFL, Jones has played in 57 games, starting 30, and recorded 68 tackles 2.5 sacks, and two passes defensed. He has four accrued seasons of service, having spent the entire 2021 season on the Dolphins’ practice squad with no in-game appearances.
