Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier could be moving into a new role with the team, according to a rumor.
Could the Miami Dolphins make a change at general manager without firing Chris Grier this offseason? According to an article by CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, there is a rumor circulating around the league that Grier, 54, could be considering retiring from the general manager role, moving into a “senior advisor role” with the team.
Jones adds, “But many have questioned whether the 84-year-old Stephen Ross [Dolphins owner and team president] would want to conduct a search for a new GM, especially considering how well-liked Grier is within the building.”
Grier joined the Dolphins in 2000 as a scout after six years as an intern and scout with the New England Patriots. He was promoted to assistant director of college scouting in 2003, then to director of college scouting in 2007. He was named the general manager in 2016, assuming full control of the front office in 2018 after Mike Tannenbaum left the executive vice president of football operations role.
Dolphins fans have been frustrated by the team’s apparent regression this year. The offensive line has struggled, despite Grier saying before the season that the media and fans were move “worried than we are” about the line. The team did not have a solid plan for the backup quarterback position, scrambling to add Tyler Huntley to the roster after Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle struggled; Huntley is in line for his fifth start of the year following injuries to starter Tua Tagovailoa.
Miami has finished each of the last four seasons with a winning record and claimed positions in the playoffs the last two years. Both of those streaks can be extended this weekend as the Dolphins visit their AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, on Sunday.
If the rumors are proven to be correct, the Dolphins could be looking for a new GM this offseason.
