The Miami Dolphins’ subpar depth chart at the quarterback position proved costly in 2024. Skylar Thompson beat out Mike White for the backup job in August, but when Tua Tagovailoa went down with an injury in Week 2, it didn’t take long at all for it to become clear that Thompson wasn’t going to cut it.
Tyler Huntley took the reins in Week 4 and ended up starting five games for the Dolphins, but the team went 2-4 in its six games without Tagovailoa.
After the season, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier told reporters that the team made an effort to sign a more reliable backup quarterback in the 2024 offseason, but couldn’t get it done.
“We were in on a number of topflight backup quarterbacks in the league,” Grier said. “We were runner-ups for a couple of them that we wanted to get here, and for some financial restraints and compensatory pick stuff, we just couldn’t go to those, to the prices.”
But with the urgency dialed up after a rough 2024 season, here are six players the Dolphins could pursue at the quarterback position:
