I wish I would’ve stayed home and not driven all the way to Atlanta for that.
Well, that sucked. The Miami Hurricanes lost to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets today in Atlanta, 28-23. The Canes couldn’t stop the run, which is all GT did today. It was more than frustrating to watch in person. I don’t remember the last time I shook my head side-to-side so much in a three-hour span.
One note before we get to the three stars: Miami’s defense sucks. Today’s performance was embarrassing. Guys were slipping all over the field, missed MORE tackles, and kept getting lost in coverage against a team that I would confidently say doesn’t have the most complicated passing game. To make matters worse, GT kept getting to the edge in the running game; there were big gains all day long. Ugh! Okay, I am going to stop before I get madder and type something I may regret.
Let’s get to the three stars of the game.
1. Cam Ward
Miami’s signal caller had a great statistical day today: 25-39 for 348 yards and 3 touchdowns. He did lose a fumble on the offense’s last play of the game. That said, he was buying time and looking downfield. Cam had Jacolby George running free down the middle of the field, but he didn’t have the time to load up a big throw..or he didn’t see him. Either way, today wasn’t meant to be. Cam missed some throws and the play calling was lame at times. Still, it wasn’t Cam Ward’s fault the Canes lost today.

2. Isaiah Horton
Miami’s physical wide receiver had a nice game despite his pedestrian numbers: 5 catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Horton made several great catches on the sideline, including his touchdown reception. He also should’ve drawn a flag in the first half when a GT defender was pulling his jersey below his shoulder pad. It was a blatant missed call by the ACC refs that supposedly love Miami. Hmm. Anyway, I wish Horton would get some of Sam Brown’s routes. Horton’s hands are considerably better.

3. Xavier Restrepo
X now has the most receptions in Miami Hurricanes football history. He broke the record with his first catch of the day. X finished with 4 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Cam missed Restrepo at least once, so X’s numbers should’ve been better. Restrepo is such a good route runner. His touchdown catch was awesome and it kept the Canes alive today in the fourth quarter.

Honorable mention:
None. This was a loss I did not expect to occur. I am going to drown my sorrows in a really nice dinner in Atlanta. It’s going to be a long, tough drive home tomorrow.
