With today’s announcement that Hanna Cavinder will be returning to Miami, both Cavinder twins will again be playing college basketball in 2024-25.
During the 2022-23 season, Haley and Hanna Cavinder helped Miami to the first Elite Eight appearance in program history. The sisters had come to Coral Gables after three years starring at Fresno State.
After the season ended, both Haley and Hanna announced they would be forgoing their extra year of COVID eligibility to focus on the next phase of their lives.
But Haley changed her mind in October, and one month later, declared that she’d be competing for TCU during the 2024-25 season. Hanna maintained that she was done playing, but revealed Wednesday morning that she’s returning to The U for close out her career.
“My last season of basketball was one of the most successful and challenging years of my life, but it helped me evolve and grow in ways that are unexplainable,” Hanna wrote on Instagram. “Over these past few months I have been itching to get back to the game that I thought I lost the love and passion for. Nothing quite fills the void that this sport brings me. With that all being said, I have decided to return for one more season. Let’s run it back Miami. I had a purpose before everyone had an opinion.”
The Cavinder sisters, 23, teamed up to revolutionize the NIL world during their time together at Fresno State and Miami. They also experienced great success on the court.
Haley averaged 18.4 points per game over her three seasons at Fresno, winning Mountain West Player of the Year in 2020-21. In her lone season at Miami, she produced 12.2 points per contest and was named second-team All-ACC.
Hanna was more of a role player with the Hurricanes, averaging 3.8 points and 1.6 assists over 34 games off the bench. However, at Fresno State, she averaged 15.7 points per game and was a two-time All-Mountain West performer.
