Another marquee game on deck for the Canes per multiple reports
Per multiple reports on Wednesday afternoon, the Miami Hurricanes will have another marquee game to start the 2025 season.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, and confirmed by multiple other sources, the Miami Hurricanes will open the 2025 season on Labor Day weekend against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
NEW: Some notable UM football schedule news today: Canes have booked a marquee opponent to begin next season (at home). And Canes are trying a 2025 schedule approach they haven’t done since 1971https://t.co/fbVwcmtA8h
Details. PLUS Ward and more notes:— Barry Jackson (@flasportsbuzz) October 30, 2024
This report has subsequently been confirmed by Matt Fortuna, a national journalist formerly of ESPN at a new outlet and Geo Milian, a Miami reporter and NIL partner.
From Jackson’s piece with this report:
Sometime between February and May, ABC/ESPN will decide whether the Notre Dame-at-UM game next year will be played on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday evenings, or Saturday afternoon.
Already known to be on the schedule with their ACC partner (but not member) schedule, Notre Dame is one of 4 non-conference games for Miami next year. The return game of the home-and-home with Florida is another, as are games against USF and Bethune-Cookman.
Miami and Notre Dame have a long history of playing each other, many times with National Championship implications. Both teams figure to be fighting for College Football Playoff berths next year, so they will start the year with a measuring stick game against one another.
Full details will be known later in the spring, but the fact that this is Miami-ND makes me think this game will be a marquee placement, either Sunday night or Monday night.
Mark your calendars (in pencil) for the fall.
Miami. Notre Dame. Sometime Labor Day Weekend.
