It’s been a year since 2024 No. 1 overall recruit Jeremiah Smith committed to Ohio State but rumors are starting to circulate that he might soon flip his commitment. Whether or not that’s true, Smith revealed an unsurprising truth about what’s going on behind the scenes.
In an interview with 247Sports, the Chaminade-Madonna Prep wide receiver said that other schools are practically “throwing” NIL money at him right now. Two programs he identified by name are the University of Miami (FL) and the University of Florida.
However, Smith has made it clear that he’s “locked in” with Ohio State. He said that money isn’t the main thing that he and his family are after.
“My family is not just about the money because I know that’s just one thing,” Smith said. “I know with NIL, we’re going to get that. Everybody is throwing all types of money at us right now. There’s just something about Ohio State that is keeping me locked in with them. I can go anywhere and chase money but that’s not how my family raised me. They want me to go somewhere and earn it. Miami is throwing all types of money at me. Florida. Just a lot of schools. Ohio State, there’s just something about them. I just wanna go there.”
Everybody’s after Jeremiah Smith, but what does the nation’s No. 1 recruit want?

Jeremiah Smith will still go through the regular National Signing Day process and he could very well flip his commitment as so many are predicting.
So if he does wind up flipping his commitment he’s either fibbing about NIL money not being a major issue or someone is going to come to him with an offer too good to pass up.
We’ll find out in a few hours.
