Paul Finebaum didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts on Mario Cristobal following Miami’s stunning loss on Saturday.
In a one-score game with less than 40 seconds left, the Hurricanes head coach elected to skip out on kneeling the ball against a team with no timeouts. Instead attempting to push the ball down the field which led to a fumble and subsequent last-second touchdown pass to lose the game.
Appearing on the “Matt Barrie Show,” Finebaum simply couldn’t believe it.
It will transcend sports, the stupidity of Mario Cristobal. People are going to be talking about that. There are very few times in our industry when you see something so bone-headed and moronic as what we saw from Miami and [Cristobal]. And it pains me to say that because I actually keep in touch with Mario all the time — but that doesn’t matter. We would be a derelict in our job by not calling him out as he was in his job. I had a coach text me this morning saying, ‘Have you ever seen a more egregious of a display of coaching malpractice as that?’ The answer is no.
Cristobal lost a game in similar fashion when he was at Oregon, causing many to question his clock management skills.
Regardless, the Canes’ perfect start is no more and they’ll be 4-1 as they head to Chapel Hill for a conference game vs. the UNC Tar Heels.
