Another loss for Miami on the recruiting trail.
Despite a 10-win season, the Miami Hurricanes’ recruiting struggles continued. Just days after Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin S Hylton Stubbs flipped his commitment from Miami to Florida, Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy LB Gavin Nix followed suit, flipping his pledge from Miami to Mario Cristobal’s former employer, the Oregon Ducks.

Miami is in desperate need of linebackers and secondary players to help shore up the defense, but have lost their top rated commitment at each position. In the case of Nix, despite his commitment to Miami, Oregon continued to recruit the blue chip talent throughout the 2024 season. And, those recruiting efforts seemed to take hold in recent days, leading to today’s commitment flip.
Miami continues to drop down the recruiting rankings, falling from 12 to 13 with Nix’s decommitment. To be blunt about it: this is an unacceptable and disastrous result for Mario Cristobal, whose main attribute for success is his ability to recruit. There are still plenty of good recruits coming in this class, but losing Nix after previously losing Stubbs is decidedly a negative result.
We’ll continue to follow Miami’s recruiting class as it develops on National Signing Day.
