We finally have an answer for one of the biggest questions heading into the NFL Combine.
On Friday at his media availability at the NFL Combine, Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward announced his decision not to participate in on-field drills.

In the video above, Ward said his 5 years of college film, and the lack of upside (read: only downside) from throwing at the Combine were the reasons he has decided not to participate. For a player who ended his career as the ACC Player of the Year and All-Time Division 1 record-holder for touchdown passes thrown, it’s hard to argue against Ward’s logic.
Like fellow Combine invitee Elijah Arroyo, Ward will skip workouts in Indianapolis and instead throw at the Miami Hurricanes Pro Day in Coral Gables on March 24th. I love the plug of Ward saying he throw “to the top receiving corps in the country” at his Pro Day, a statement that puts praise on the surrounding players who, like Ward, are looking to get drafted in 2025.
While this is personally disappointing — I wanted to see Cam Ward throw at the Combine — I fully understand and support Ward’s decision. As the potential #1 overall pick, there is no upside to participating. He’ll workout in March with players he knows, on a script he writes, and showcase his talents from the comfort of Miami’s Coral Gables campus. Yeah, that’s a good choice.
With Ward’s decision not to participate, Miami will have 4 players participate in on-field drills tomorrow afternoon. RB Damien Martinez, and WRs Sam Brown, Jacolby George, and Xavier Restrepo will all look to show their skills and elevate their statuses in the eyes of NFL teams once more.
More from the combine soon.
