Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin was at the Miami-Virginia Tech game on Friday night. It’d be an understatement to say he was amped up for that matchup.
Irvin, who played at Miami from 1984-1987, has always been passionate about the Hurricanes. With that said, he was a bit too animated prior to kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium. The three-time Super Bowl champion was literally at the center of a huddle trying his best to get every player fired up.
Football fans watching Friday night’s game were a bit alarmed by Irvin’s behavior. They believe something was a tad off.
“Tell Michael Irvin to chill, he’s too old for this,” one person tweeted.
Another person said, “What an embarrassment. Had to literally be walked away from the players by the coaches/assts at one point.”
Of course, some fans loved the passion Irvin showed on the sideline.
“You gotta love the Pride The U’s Alumni show about their program. They built it from nothing and they want it back so bad,” a social media user wrote.
“No one loves The U more than that man,” another user said.
Irvin has always been beloved due to his intensity. That’s what made him must-see TV on NFL Network.
Luckily for Irvin, the Hurricanes defeated the Hokies by a final score of 38-34. They needed a last-second stop to advance to 5-0.
Miami will be back in action on Oct. 5 against Cal. We’ll see if “The U” can make Irvin proud and stay undefeated.
