It’s rare and weird enough to see a college football player on his sixth or even seventh year of playing. But the Miami Hurricanes will be bringing in a player on his ninth year this coming season.
Taking to X on Thursday, Miami tight end Cam McCormick announced that he is returning for his ninth year of college football and second with the Hurricanes.
McCormick was in the same recruiting class as the likes of Jalen Hurts and Nick Bosa, but suffered through season-ending injuries in four straight years while playing for Oregon.
Since 2017, McCormick has been limited to just 36 games and has 26 receptions for 231 yards and four touchdowns.
Nevertheless, fans had all kinds of jokes for someone with so many years in college getting yet another year in the sport:
Miami tight end Cam McCormick announces he will return for his NINTH season of college football. He was in the same HS recruiting class as Rashan Gary, Nick Bosa and Jalen Hurts. McCormick battled thru season-ending injuries in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. https://t.co/8XDKz5kRou

“Bro needs social security not NIL,” one user joked.
“Should see a nice raise on the vet minimum if he can make it to year 10,” wrote another.
“First player to get a Metamucil NIL deal,” joked a third.
Now just imagine if he can get a 10th year in college football…
