Kyle McCord became one of many high-profile quarterbacks to enter college football’s transfer portal this week.
Following one season as Ohio State’s starter, McCord will seek a new school for his senior year. One analyst sees him going to the ACC.
On3’s J.D. PicKell predicted where the top quarterbacks on the portal will land. He paired McCord with Miami, whose incumbent starter is also seeking a transfer.
“Miami has a need at quarterback following the departure of Tyler Van Dyke via the portal, and the Ohio State to Miami transfer has happened before with the likes of Tate Martell,” PicKell wrote. “Of course, Miami would be getting a more proven passer this time, one likely to stick at quarterback.”

Van Dyke entered the portal after throwing 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his third year as Miami’s starter. The Hurricanes are 7-5 heading into a Pinstripe Bowl matchup against Rutgers.
Emory Williams is the only other quarterback who’s seen playing time for Miami this season. The three-star recruit has completed 44 of 71 passes for 470 yards, three touchdowns, and a pick in his freshman year.
McCord would give Miami head coach Mario Cristobal instant credibility under center. Although he threw two interceptions in a crushing loss to Michigan, he previously led the Buckeyes to 11 straight wins.
The Hurricanes have reached double-digit wins just once (2017) in the last 20 seasons.Â
Pickell also predicted Ohio State will replace McCord by snagging Cam Ward through the portal. He has Van Dyke going to Mississippi State to succeed Will Rogers, who Pickell guessed will go to Washington.Â
That barely begins to cover all the starting quarterbacks on the portal. Riley Leonard, Dillon Gabriel, DJ Uiagalelei, Will Howard, and Grayson McCall could all play for a different school in 2024.
